Getting started

Quickstart (5 minutes)

Install, index a folder, wire up Claude Desktop, ask your first question.

Download for your OS

macOS DMG, Windows MSI, Linux DEB, VS Code extension, Wasm portal.

Models & inference

Installing Ollama

ollama.com → install → ollama pull qwen2.5-coder. We auto-detect on launch.

Recommended models

qwen2.5-coder (planning), nomic-embed-text (embeddings), qwen2.5-vl (vision).

Cloud fallback (Plus)

Bring your own Anthropic / OpenAI / Gemini key for huge codebases.

Indexing your codebase

Adding a project

Point Tanvrit AI at a directory. It walks the tree, parses 21 languages, and writes a SQLite index.

Re-indexing

Hash-based incremental — only changed files are reparsed.

Excluding paths

.gitignore is honoured. Add custom excludes in Settings → Indexer.

Troubleshooting

Claude Desktop can't see my server

Check bearer token, port 19281, that the desktop app is running, then restart Claude Desktop.

Indexer stuck on a file

Check Settings → Indexer logs; oversize / binary files are skipped automatically.

Wasm portal degraded features

Engine-dependent features (local inference, file watching) are disabled on web. Use desktop.

Privacy & telemetry

What we collect (and don't)

Telemetry off by default. Your source code and index never leave your machine.

MCP bearer token

Generated on first launch, stored in your platform keychain. Rotate from Settings.

Account deletion

DPDPA-compliant deletion form for cloud-portal accounts.
